GREENVILLE — Trent Whitehead's leadoff home run, coming on the first pitch he saw, gave the top-seed East Carolina Pirates a quick 1-0 lead over the fourth-seed Binghamton Bearcats in Saturday's 2009 Greenville Regional. It was the seventh home run of the season for the former Washington Pam Pack star.
Stephen Batts doubled and scored on a balk later in the first for a 2-0 lead.
Devin Harris smashed his 13th homer, coming in the second, for a 3-0 lead. That's where the game stands after two innings of play.
The winner faces South Carolina at 6 p.m. today, while the loser takes on Binghamton at 2 p.m.
