Mr. Elmer Joseph Cox, age 99, a resident of 1770 Gilead Shores Road, Blounts Creek, died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Britthaven of Washington.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Pastor Melvin Haas.
Mr. Cox was born in Beaufort County on July 13, 1909. He was the son of the late Nathaniel Cox and Dana Ecklin Cox. Mr. Cox was a retired farmer. He was a “Yellow Dog” Democrat and member of the Memorial Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Cox was married to the former Edna Louise Cox, who preceded him in death in June of 1999.
Survivors include his son, Robert Bryan “Bob” Cox of the home; daughter in law, Jean H. Cox of Greenville; grandson, David Bryan Cox and his wife, Audra of Cary; great grandson, Myles Anderson Cox of Cary; special nephew, Ernest Cutler of Blounts Creek; special niece, Joyce Woolard of Kinston; and special friend, Eva Jean Hardison of Blounts Creek.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Cox was preceded in death by a son, Rudy Cox.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington.
