Mrs. Mary H. Cratch

Mrs. Mary Stancill Hardison Cratch, age 83, a resident of 204 E. 12th Street, Washington, died Monday June 8, 2009 at Britthaven of Washington.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday June 11, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and will be conducted by Eddie Bowen. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
Mrs. Cratch was born in Beaufort County on March 22, 1926 to the late Joshua Hubert and Vera Perry Hardison. She was a 1944 graduate of Washington High School and from 1945 until 1948 attended University of Maryland and Tayloe Hospital where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse. On October 3, 1948 she married Lawrence Cratch, Jr. who preceded her in death on March 26, 2000. She retired from the Beaufort County Hospital in 1979. Mrs. Cratch was a member of the First Church of Christ of Washington, DAV Auxiliary # 48 of Washington and the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 15 of Washington.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith C. Gurganus and husband Bobby of Freeman, VA, Margaret Ann Cratch of Washington, three sisters, Mildred H. Hardison and husband William of Williamston, Vera H. Salter of Jacksonville, Betty H. Woolard of Richmond, VA, her sister in law, Shirley Hardison of Washington, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Joshua Hubert Hardison.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington.
