Eva Gray Askew, age 93, of Jamesville, died Saturday June 27, 2009, at the Williamston Rehab Center. Mrs. Askew was born in Martin County to the late Herbert Manning and Mary Whitney Manning. She was married to C.A. Askew Sept. 22, 1940 who preceded her in death Sept. 11, 2001. She was also preceded in death by Sisters Mittie Brown Tice, Mamie Clyde Griffin of Farm Life and Elizabeth Jackson of Williamston. She was a retired salesperson from Belks and a member of First Baptist Church in Jamesville.
Surviving are Daughter Julia Griffin and Husband Billy of Windsor, and a Son Charles Askew and wife Mary Lee of Bear Grass; Sisters Louise Gurkin, Margaret Hardison and Melba Hardison, all of Farm Life; Brothers W.N. Pinky Manning of Farm Life and Herbert Leslie Manning of Kinston; Grandchildren Julie Ann Furlough and Husband Chad of Farm Life, Dawn McKnight and Husband John of Greenville, and Gigi Taylor and Husband Vince of Bear Grass; great-grandchildren Grace Ann Furlough, Mary Gretchen McKnight, Avery McKnight and Brayden Taylor.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Biggs Funeral Chapel by Rev. Mack Crisp, Rev. Eddie Coltrane and Rev. Doug Stokes. Burial will be in Jamesville Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home and other times at 4034 Bear Grass Road in Williamston, NC.
