Mr. Redding Lewis “Red” Cratch, Sr., age 79, a resident of 101 Patricia Road, Washington, NC passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday July 28, 2009.
A graveside funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday July 30, 2009 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Minister Vernon N. Clark.
Mr. Red was born in Blounts Creek, NC on October 19, 1929 son of the late Lawrence O’Brien Cratch, Sr. and the late Lillian Pearl Adams Cratch. He was a graduate of Chocowinity High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Red married the former Verona Bailey Clark on October 24, 1951 who survives. He was a retired clerk with the U.S. Postal Service in Washington. He was a member of the Improved Order of Red Men, Warren Chapel United Methodist Church and was very active in the Beaufort County, the N.C. and Federal Republican Parties.
Surviving along with his wife Verona of the home are two daughters: Lynne Haskins of Atlanta, GA and Robin Arnold of Washington, NC; four grandchildren: Morgan Arnold, Lauren Haskins, Jason Arnold and Andy Haskins; two great-grandchildren: Kennedy and Korbyn Arnold; two sisters: Lillian Eversole and Mary Woolard as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Red was preceded in death by a son, Redding L. Cratch, Jr., a grandson, Colin Cratch Arnold and two brothers, C.K. Cratch and Lawrence O. Cratch, Jr.
The family will receive friends at the home located at 101 Patricia Road in Runyon Hills, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown Street, Washington, NC 27889 or to the charity of one’s choice.
