Norwood L. Gibbs 1938 – 2009

Norwood Lee Gibbs, 70, of 34722 U.S. Highway 264, Engelhard, died late Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Hyde County, November 1, 1938, he was the son of the late Walter Lee and Margaret Estelle Williams Gibbs. He spent his working years engaged in farming after serving in the U. S. Coast Guard for four years. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Fulford Cemetery, Engelhard. Steve Bryan will officiate.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Marshall Gibbs; a son, Michael Lee Gibbs and his wife, Tanya of Raleigh; three daughters, Heidi Ann Gibbs of Garner, Carey Elizabeth Gibbs of Winterville and Hope Gibbs Hamill and her fiancé, Mitch Hartman of Greenville; four brothers, Bradford “B.L.” Gibbs of Columbia, Tommie Tinker Gibbs and Lefty Carl Gibbs both of Fairfield, Christopher A. Gibbs of Engelhard; five sisters, Ann G. Tunnell of Swan Quarter, Linda B. Mayo of Engelhard, Nancy Jane G. Webb of Edenton, Nora G. Hodges of Engelhard and Margaret “Sissie” G. Gibbs of Fairfield.; grandchildren, Nicole Hamill, Ricky Lee Hamill, Mitchell Hartman, Laura Hartman Knox, Matthew Hartman, Mickey Hartman, Maddux Hartman, Keirsten Scheenks, Audrey Gibbs, Autumn Gibbs and Austin Gibbs.

The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter on Wednesday evening, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and other times at the home.
