Southside soccer tops Pamlico|Tigers spike Edenton

Southside tops Pamlico in soccer
The Southside Seahawks got four goals from John Sheppard in a 4-0 win over the Pamlico Hurricanes on Monday.
Michael Ward added two goals and Daniel Jennings had one.
Billy Harding (four saves) and Hayden Huggins (three saves), who had an assist, combined in goal for the shutout.
The Seahawks (2-0) play host to Ayden-Grifton at 6 p.m. Wednesday. (WDN)
Williamston sweeps Edenton
The Williamston Tigers made it a clean sweep of Edenton in Monday’s volleyball action.
The varsity team (5-0) picked up a 25-13, 25-18, 25-18 victory. Katie Paschal had six kills, Meredith Roberson added five service points and four kills and Harris Shepherd had four points and three kills for the Tigers.
The junior varsity team (5-0) won 25-22, 25-17. Alex Hardison led the way with four points and four kills.
Williamston travels to Manteo on Thursday. (WDN)
Terra Ceia tops TEACH
The Terra Ceia Knights won their first volleyball game of the year. Terra Ceia notched a 25-12, 25-20, 25-7 win over TEACH.
The Knights (1-2) play at Hobgood today. (WDN)
Seahawks sweep Bears
The Southside volleyball team increased its record to 6-1 on Monday as it topped Bear Grass 25-18, 25-15, 25-19.
Caitlyn Bogart recorded 10 service points to lead the Seahawks, while Reniki Hodges had 11 kills and Atyana Starkie had nine.
Southside will be back in action today when it travels to Jamesville. (WDN)
Panthers shot down by Bullets
The Northside volleyball team fell in three sets to Jamesville, losing 25-19, 25-13, 26-24 on Monday.
Savannah Boyd paced the Panthers with seven service points, while Rachel Hollowell had six.
The Panthers’ JV team upped its record to 3-2 with a 2-0 victory over the Bullets’ JV squad.
Northside will be back in action today when it hosts Bear Grass. (WDN)
’Canes, Isles deal to swap minor league forwards
RALEIGH (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders have swapped minor-league forwards.
The Hurricanes acquired center Rob Henniger from the Islanders on Monday in exchange for center Bobby Hughes, but the deal won’t be official until Hughes takes a physical.
The 26-year-old Hennigar split last season between Bridgeport of the American Hockey League and Utah of the ECHL. Hughes spent the last two seasons with Carolina’s AHL affiliate in Albany.
