Mrs. Judith Elks Hackney, 55, a resident of 1109 Summit Ave., Washington, NC, died Monday September 14, 2009 at University Health Systems Inpatient Hospice in Greenville, NC.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday September 17, 2009 at Oakdale Cemetery of Washington, NC officiated by The Reverend C. King Cole.
Mrs. Hackney was born in Pitt County on December 30, 1953, daughter of Mary Dudley Taylor Elks and the late Walter Robert Elks. She was a graduate of Chocowinity High School and received her BA degree in Business Administration from Mount Olive College. On August 19, 1978, she married James Albert Hackney who survives. Mrs. Hackney was a member of the Inner Banks Anglican Church, and had served on the Board of Chatham County Relay for Life.
In addition to her husband, Jim, of the home and her mother, Mary, of Greensboro, she is survived by her children Heather Perry and her husband Armistead of Washington and Louis Hackney and his wife, Ann of Rock Hill, SC; her brothers: Dale Elks and his wife, Kathy and Walter Elks all of New Bern; her sisters: Mary Matthis and her husband John of Apex and Blanche Wentz and her husband, Bo of Raleigh and three grandchildren: Tap Perry, Gray Perry and Samantha Hackney.
In addition to her father, Mrs. Hackney was preceded in death by a son, Robert Hackney.
The family will receive friends after the graveside service at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Armistead Perry, 110 Summerhaven Lane, Washington, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Inner Banks Anglican Church, 218 Riverside Drive, Washington, NC 27889 or Beaufort County Chapter Relay for Life, c/o Lisa Alligood, 7581 Broad Creek Road, Washington, NC 27889.
