Mrs. Frances Rowe Allen, age 88, a former resident of New York died Tuesday October 6, 2009 at Autumnfield Rest Home of Belhaven.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday October 10, 2009 at the Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church officiated by Pastor David Pierce. Mrs. Allen’s grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Allen was born in Cortland, NY on July 7, 1921 daughter of the late Halford S. Rowe and the late Mildred Frances Rood Rowe. She was a 1939 graduate of McGraw High School in McGraw, NY and continued her education at a business school in Syracuse, NY. Mrs. Allen married John T. Allen on June 26, 1948 who preceded her in death on June 28, 1969. She was a medical secretary for Dr. Krauklis Family Practice in McGraw, NY for twenty six years. After seventy eight years in McGraw, NY Mrs. Allen moved to Belhaven. Mrs. Allen was a former member of McGraw Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, active in her children’s school PTA and a Girl Scout leader and den mother. She published a weekly column in the Cortland Standard Newspaper.
Mrs. Allen is survived by a daughter: Cynthia Allen Ertle of Belhaven; a son: Phillip Allen of Lewes, DE; a sister: Lorena Douglas of Lady Lakes, FL; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday October 10, 2009 from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour at the church.
