Mrs. Viola Rae Upton Cauley, age 78, a resident of 302 Patalanda Road, Wilmington, NC died Sunday October 18, 2009 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice &Life Care Center.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday October 21, 2009 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Billy Fowler.
Mrs. Cauley was born in Pitt County on July 19, 1931, daughter of the late Claude Thomas Upton and Thelma Alligood Upton. In 1951, she married Richard Oscar Cauley who preceded her in death in 1977. Mrs. Cauley obtained her nursing degree from Beaufort County Community College in 1976. She worked as a registered nurse in Beaufort and New Hanover Counties. She retired as a nurse with the State of North Carolina working in Pender County. Mrs. Cauley was a member of Castle Hayne Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son-in-law: Ricky Williams of Wilmington; her brothers: Kenneth E. Upton of Athens, GA and Gary C. Upton of Washington; her sister: Janice U. Davenport of Washington; her grandchildren: Daniel Lee Williams and Richard Dominic Cauley both of Wilmington and her great grandchildren: Madison Lynn Williams and Hannah L. Norton both of Wilmington. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her children: Richard E. Cauley and Cynthia Lynn Williams; her brother: Claude T. Upton and her sisters: Elizabeth Woolard and Lorina Wainwright.
The family will receive friends at the home of her sister Janice Upton Davenport located at 130 Holloman Street, Washington, NC.
