Ethel M. Spencer went home to be with The Lord on Friday, November 13, 2009. She was born February 22, 1925 in Yeatesville, North Carolina to the union of Lottie Mae Moore and Poley Spencer. She was the oldest of nine children. Ethel attended school in North Carolina graduating from Pantego High School. In 1944 she moved to New York City, where she lived and worked in numerous capacities.
On December 22, 1946 she married her longtime sweetheart Mr. Lee Spencer. This union produced two children, Sharon Spencer-Williams of Dayton, OH and Gregory Spencer of Jamaica, NY.
Waiting to meet her in Glory, are her parents, and her sister Elva Rae Spencer. She leaves to cherish her memory; her husband of 62 years, Lee; children, Sharon Spencer-Williams (Ronald), Gregory Spencer (Mary); sisters, Dorothy Spencer, and Mary Rhodes; brothers, Walter Spencer Sr., J.C. Spencer (Shirley), Wilbert Spencer Sr. (Lillian) and Willie Spencer (Rydia) and Vincent (Yolanda); grandchildren, Tiffany C. Williams, and Geoffrey Spencer; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday Nov. 21, 2009 1 p.m. Holly Grove Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Sidney Crossroads, Belhaven.
The final viewing will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
