Martha de Jonge Hellendoorn, age 80, a resident of 1927 Vreugdenhil Road, Pantego, died Monday, December 14, 2009 at her home.
A funeral service will be held today at 1 p.m., at Terra Ceia Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Brent Pennings officiating. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of Terra Ceia Christian Reformed Church.
Mrs. Hellendoorn was born in Breskens, The Netherlands on September 20, 1929 to Marinus and Christina Van Poelje de Jonge who preceded her in death. Martha was a housewife and a loving mother and grandmother and a loving friend to all. She was a member of Terra Ceia Christian Reformed Church. She was married for 51 years to Johannes Wilhelmus Hendrik Hellendoorn who preceded her in death on June 28, 2003.
She is survived by one son, Johannes W. H. Hellendoorn, Jr. and wife Tami of Black Hawk, SD; three daughters, Christina H. Cothren and husband William of Delmar, NY, Marjo Hellendoorn Degrande and husband Geert of Sluis, The Netherlands, and Monique Van Essendelft and husband Bernard, Jr. of Pantego. Martha is from a family of nine children and is survived by two brothers, Bernard of Canada and Robert of The Netherlands; and two sisters, Grietje and Maria both of The Netherlands; and eleven grandchildren, Nicole Hellendoorn, Alexander Cothren, Laura Van Essendelft, Mariah Van Essendelft, Thaddeus Van Essendelft, Johannes Van Essendelft, Margaux Beernaert, Alexander Degrande, Sebastiaan Degrande, Jodi Eckardt and Justin Eckardt.
