“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7
Agnes Frye Barber Etters, 82, of 9065 Old Sand Hill Rd., Aurora, NC passed away at Wilson Medical Center in Wilson NC on Thursday, December 17, 2009 after a valiant battle with complications from a catastrophic fall injury.
Mrs. Etters was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Minnie Frye; sons, Billy Etters, Wally Etters, Carlton Ray Barber and John A. Barber; daughters, Sandra B. Parker and Jeanette B. Woodard; brothers, Martin Frye and Joe Tyson; and sister, Winnie Neeley.
She is survived by sons, Daryl L. Barber of Wilson, Roger Barber and Jerry Barber, both of Aurora; daughters, Pamela Stahl of Rocky Mount and Sylvia Jones of Wilson; sisters, Gladys Pittman and Laura West of Lumberton, NC; brother, Bill Frye of Clarksville, TN; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved dog “Trixie” who was such a comforting and loving companion in her later declining years.
Mrs. Etters was a beloved resident of the Small community near Aurora, NC. She was a long time member of White Hill FWB Church where she sang in the choir for many years until failing health and eyesight limited her participation. She was as Godly a woman as you would find on the face of the Earth and was known for, and frequently requested, to lead prayer for the church services. Boy could she pray some beautiful and powerful prayers. She prided herself in the fact that for 27 straight years she read the Bible from “in the beginning” in Genesis to “amen” in Revelation, and even in her later years could recite almost any verse in the Bible, verbatim.
A celebration of her life services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 at White Hill FWB Church in the Small community near Aurora with Pastor Wesley Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A visitation and viewing will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday night, Dec. 19, at the church. To honor the celebration of her life, Mrs. Etters beloved nephew, Lacy Pittman, and his gospel group, the Glorymen, will perform some of her favorite Gospel songs.
