PINK HILL — Edith Cartwright Wiley Turner, 88, of 304 N. Central Avenue, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. She was born December 8, 1921 to the late Clarence and Mattie Cartwright in Bath, N.C. She was a loyal member of Pink Hill Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and former Sunday School teacher. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and affectionately known as “Gam” to many. She will be fondly remembered as a dedicated teacher and librarian in Lenoir County Schools where she devoted 36 years to her career and most importantly to children she loved.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Frank Scott Wiley and William Graham Turner; and son, Frank Scott Wiley, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue Wiley Novicki and husband Greg of Pink Hill; grandchildren, Paul Wiley Novicki and Scott Wiley Novicki of the home, Bonnie Jeanne Berg and husband Steve of Winnabow; great-grandchildren, Brittney and Steven Berg of Winnabow.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2010, at Pink Hill Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Pink Hill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ann Brinson and the Rev. Dr. Jerry Bron officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pink Hill Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 357, Pink Hill, N.C. 28572.
