Southside sweeps Manteo|Emmanuel wins again

The Southside Seahawks made it a clean sweep of Manteo in Tuesday’s prep basketball action.
Southside’s boys (7-10, 3-6) picked up a 44-41 win over the Redskins. Southside led 26-12 at the half, but a 14-3 run by the Redskins in the third quarter made things close. The Seahawks, which got a team-high 14 points from Willie Ruffin, made some key defensive stands in the final quarter to pull out the win.
Katisha Hyman scored 17 points to lead the Southside girls (13-2) to a 59-51 win over Manteo. Kayla Jones and Tamisha Cradle each scored 12, while Chante Painter added eight.
Southside plays at Camden on Wednesday.
Cougars roll
Andrew Barmer racked up 25 points and 26 rebounds to lead Emmanuel Christian to a 79-61 win over Victory on Tuesday.
Hunter Boyd also had a double-double as he recorded 24 points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars (10-2, 4-1). Daniel Brantley scored 12 points, while Josh Chandler and Christian Watters each tallied 9 points.
The Emmanuel girls team also topped Victory as it won 35-26.
Chris Morris scored 13 points and recorded six steals to lead the Cougars, while Jessica Rowe added 10 points and six steals to improve the team’s record to 8-3 (4-1).
Emmanuel will be back in action on Friday when it plays at New Life.
Pungo tops Albemarle
The Pungo Lady Raiders picked up a 46-26 win over Albemarle on Tuesday.
Jenna Sadler paced Pungo (9-12) with 16 points. Tess Smithwick added 15 while Allison Armstrong had 8, Jodi Rose 7 and Melanie Harris 1.
The junior varsity boys, which got 14 points from David Talley, won 39-17.
Pungo plays at Northeast on Friday.
Knights fall
The Terra Ceia Knights lost 53-34 to Hobgood in boys basketball action.
Derrick Chesson paced the Knights (8-11, 2-4 Tarheel Independent Conference) with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Terra Ceia plays at Lawrence on Friday.
