Mrs. Ruth Bell Ore, 87, of 20211 Oakland Ave., Colonial Heights, Va., slipped away quietly on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.
She was born Sept. 17, 1923, to the late Giles and Mattie Moore, and was reared in Blounts Creek. She received her education in Beaufort County Public Schools System. Ruth was employed for over 70 years and her employment included farming, childcare, domestic engineering, food service and radiology technician. Her work ethic spoke for itself. In 1968 she retired from the federal government at Fort Lee. Ruth was baptized and gave her life to Christ on May 12, 1968, at the Morning Star Apostolic Church in Newport News, Va. She later joined Calvary Temple under the spiritual leadership of Apostle W.M. Taylor until she answered her call home. Her life was fruitful and fulfilled.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Yvonne Tootle, and her son Leonard Moore Jr.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: a loving sister, Clarice Moore of Bonnerton; three sons, Marion Ore (Pat) of Washington, William Ore of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Sandy Moore (Beverly) of Bronx, N.Y.; six daughters, Leona Lilley (Eddie), of Petersburg, Va., Nellie Reid (Johnny) of Bronx, N.Y., Darion Greer (Jimmy) of Colonial Heights, Va., Dorothy Walston (Alvah) of Petersburg, Va., Helen Ray (Bob) of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Marilyn Ore-Booth of Washington; 31 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and her life-time friend John Ore.
A funeral service was held Jan. 29, 2010, at Calvary Temple #1, Petersburg, Va. Interment was in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Va.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the staff of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg, Va.
