Mrs. Blanche Walters Jones, 91, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010 in Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Private burial will be in Cherry Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones, a native of Pitt County, was a resident of Greenville for most of her life. She was employed with Union Carbide for more than 30 years, prior to her retirement and was a longtime member of First Christian Church. For the past six months she had made her home near her sister in Gatesville, NC.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Lee Jones in 1959, her daughter, Faye Jones Messmer in 2002, and son-in-law, George F. Messmer in 2005.
She is survived by: two sisters, Faye W. Smith and husband, Ed of Bath, NC and Myrtle Willard of Gatesville, NC; six grandchildren, Patti McCracken and husband, Larry, Bob Messmer and wife, Carol, Ed Messmer and wife, Debbie, George Messmer, Jr. and wife, Barbara, Chris Messmer and wife, Maria, and Joy Kane and husband, Scott, all of Rochester, NY; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday for one hour prior to the service at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
