Robert Autry Marshall, 74, of 2525 White Plains Road, Engelhard died early Wednesday, February 24, 2010, unexpectedly at his home.
Born in Hyde County, December 18, 1935, he was the son of the late Roy Gibbs and Gladys Elizabeth Midyette Marshall. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as Master Sergeant in 1974 and then in 1980 he began work as a rural carrier with the U.S. Postal Service where he retired in 1997. He was a member of Atlantic Lodge # 294, AF &AM and was a faithful and active member of Soule United Methodist Church. He was first married to the former Kathryn Hawes who preceded him in death in 1996 and later married Shirley Hubbard Douglas Marshall who survives.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Soule United Methodist Church. Pastor Jerald Craddock will officiate and Masonic Rites will be provided by Atlantic Lodge # 294. Burial with military honors will follow in Fulford Cemetery.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are daughters, Wendy Marshall of Portland, Oregon, Amy Marshall of Rock Hill, SC, Carol Ann Williams and husband, Kent of Engelhard, Diana D. Riggins and husband, Terry of Loda, Illinois, Lisa D. Carawan and husband, Mark of Swan Quarter and Wendy Douglas of Engelhard; a brother, Roy Wayne Marshall and wife, Nora of Engelhard; a sister, Christine M. Cahoon of Pinetown; grandchildren, Tabitha Lewis, Jonathan Williams, Terry Lee Riggins, Jr. and Kayla Riggins; a great-granddaughter, Jaila Williams.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judy M. Hearn.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, N.C. 27565-2758.
The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter on Friday, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.
