Six-year-old Kennedy Rhodes (left) and her sister, 18-month-old Campbell,
prepare to present a $2,500 check for Haiti earthquake relief to Lorrie Beach,
executive director of the Greater Pamlico Area chapter of the American Red
Cross. The money was raised by donations and the sale of tooth-whitening
kits. The fundraising effort was coordinated by Chocowinity dentist Dr. Angie
Rhodes, the mother of Kennedy and Campbell, along with her staff. “We’re
very excited to have been able to do that,” the elder Rhodes said. According
to Rhodes, the fundraiser was inspired by Kennedy, who wanted to help
Haitians affected by the quake. (WDN Photo/Jonathan Clayborne)
