Rita Gail Whitley, 83, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Adair County, MO, the daughter of the late Edgar Louis Horton and Louis Mae Dean Horton.
Mrs. Whitley served as editor of “Chatter”, a local newsletter for Fairbrook Senior Apartments in Aberdeen, MD and secretary, program chairman and newsletter editor for the Kansas City Council Association of Research and Enlightenment.
Remembered is a son, Gregory Stephen Whitley, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are four children: John C. Whitley III and wife Helen of Wilmington, NC; David L. Whitley and wife Beverley of Claremore, OK; D. Kay Whitley Myers and husband John Myers of New Bern, NC; Josephine G. Whitley Delaney of Bel Air, MD; nine grandchildren: Andrew, Yianni, Jesi and Joshua Whitley; Mark du-Pont; Riley and Thomas Myers; Aubrey and Mark Delaney; two great-grandchildren: Christian and Lea du-Pont.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Wilmington, NC.
