Mrs. Elizabeth Holmes Davenport, 90, of Kinston died Friday, March 26, 2010 at Lenior Memorial Hospital, Kinston.
Born October 17, 1919 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Holmes and Sarah Davenport Holmes and was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie W. Davenport; son, Oscar Lonnell Davenport; sisters, Ruth H. Ambrose, Hannah H. Madden, Mildred A. Holmes, Louise H. Tillett and Bertha H. Alexander; brothers, Wallace T. Holmes and George W. Holmes. Mrs. Davenport was a retired librarian and teachers assistant with Washington and Chowan County Public Schools and member of Bethany United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 347, The Albemarle District Women’s Auxiliary and formerly attended Mt. Tabor Free Will Baptist Church, Creswell.
Her family includes her daughter, Elizabeth D. Smith and husband Carl of Kinston, N.C.; son, Norman Lee Kelly and wife Marcia of Battle Creek, Michigan; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Monday, March 29, 2010 at 11:00 am at Mt. Tabor Free Will Baptist Church, Creswell with Reverend David Harrington and Reverend Daniel Powers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday, March 29, 2010 following the services in the church fellowship hall.
