Redding Boyd “R.B” Cutler, 88, of Ashley Road, Chesapeake, Va., died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at his home with his family by his side.
Born in Blounts Creek, NC he was the son of the late Oliver and Sidney Cutler and was the ninth of their ten children. R.B. was a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church where he was in the Joy Sunday School Class. He was a charter member of American Legion Post 280. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Europe with the 385th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. He retired after 30 years as a firefighter at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. R.B.’s family would like to honor his legacy by encouraging family and friends to take a few moments this week to perform some small act of kindness for another.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Hazel Swain Cutler; a daughter, Pamela V. Cutler, M.D. and husband Robert McDevitt, M.D. of Albuquerque, NM; a son, Sidney R. Cutler and wife Karen Stone Cutler of Blounts Creek, NC; five grandchildren, Molly Cutler McDevitt, Dara Cutler McDevitt, Stephen Robert Cutler, Aaron Sidney Cutler and Caroline Marie Cutler; two sisters, Leona Cutler Baynor and Laura Cutler Webster as well as a large extended family.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Great Bridge Baptist Church. Rev. Charles L. Moseley and Dr. Will Langford will officiate. The interment will be in the Cutler Family Cemetery, Blounts Creek, NC. Following the graveside service, a reception will be held at 4 p.m. at Ephesus Free Will Baptist Church.
The viewing will begin on Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home &Crematory.
