Mr. Sidney Murl Carawan, 74, of 519 Church Street, Fairfield, died early Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at his home.
Born in Hyde County, June 15, 1935, he was the son of the late Harvey and Sarah Vaughn Carawan. He was married to the former Virginia Harris who survives. Murl served in the U. S. Army and spent time in the Mojave Desert as a medic and surgical nurse, was a retired vice president and compliance officer with The East Carolina Bank and was a member of the Fairfield Christian Church. He was active in Boy Scout and youth-baseball activities in years past.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Fairfield Christian Church with Ray Everton officiating. Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery in Swan Quarter.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Harvey Rhea Carawan of Fairfield; two brothers, Willie Mack Carawan, Sr. of Fairfield and Billy Gene Carawan of El Paso, Texas; two grandchildren, Lee Scott Carawan and Anna Marie Carawan.
He was preceded in death by a half-brother, Johnny Ballance, and a half-sister, Maggie B. Hodges.
