Mr. Burney Simon Warren, Jr., 87, a resident of Greenville, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 3 pm at St. James United Methodist Church. Burial will be private.
Mr. Warren was born in Greenville on February 23, 1923, and was the son of the late, Burney Simon and Winifred Cousins Warren. He was a graduate of Greenville High School and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy. For the last several years, Burney and Katharine have resided at Cypress Glenn Retirement Community.
Burney owned Warrens Drug Store in Greenville, then was a partner and pharmacist with Hollowells Drug Store. Later he worked as a relief pharmacist at Tayloe Drug Store in Washington during his retirement. For more than 18 years, Burney and Katharine lived and enjoyed Bayview, NC.
Mr. Warren was a charter member of St. James United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and was an active member of the Mens Sunday School Class. He was also a former member of the Greenville Exchange Club, the Greenville Country Club, and the Greenville Coffee Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James H. Warren.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Katharine Turnage Warren; sons, Burney S. Warren, III and wife, Judy, and James T. Warren and wife, Karen, all of Greenville; grandsons, Chris Warren and wife, Alli, and Scott Warren and wife, Kayt; granddaughter, Shelly Warren Spear and husband, David; three great-grandchildren, Tess Warren, Hank Warren, and Ethan Spear; and sisters in-law, Janice Whitaker Turnage and husband, Harvey, of Greenville, and Marjorie E. Turnage, of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Four Seasons Room at Cypress Glen.
