Mr. Donald Edward Parkes, 80, a resident of Chocowinity, NC died Thursday April 22, 2010 at Beaufort County Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held 2:00PM Tuesday April 27, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church of Washington officiated by Rev. Darryl Evans. A private committal will follow for the family at the cemetery. Friends are invited to attend a reception at the Bay Club at Cypress Landing following the service. The family will join friends at the Bay Club following the committal.
Mr. Parkes was born on November 28, 1929 to the late Christopher J. and Leila E. Stephey Parkes. He graduated from Moorestown High School, Moorestown, New Jersey, obtained a diploma from the University of Vienna, Austria and graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Economics. Mr. Parkes served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a mason for over 50 years. On May 27, 1961, he married the former Joan Petersen, who survives. Mr. Parkes worked for various companies in the area of accounting and finance, before his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Cypress Landing Golf and Yacht Clubs.
In addition to his wife, Joan, Mr. Parkes is survived by two sons: Douglas Parkes of Palo Alto, CA and Donald Parkes and his wife Vanetta of Boulder, CO, and a granddaughter, Katie Parkes.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Parkes was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Davis.
