GREENVILLE Former East Carolina center Sean Allen has agreed to terms with the Buffalo Bills on an undrafted free agent contract according to a release by the National Football League organization late Monday.
Allen will officially initiate his professional career by participating in the teams mandatory two-day mini-camp May 7-9 at the Bills practice facility in Orchard Park, N.Y.
A Wilson (N.C.) native who prepped at James Hunt High School, Allen recently completed his ECU career after starting 30 of 46 games on the Pirates offensive line. In all, he experienced action in 2,057 snaps and was credited with a combined 114 knockdown blocks, dating back to his true freshman campaign in 2006.
Allen, 22, was selected to the first team All-Conference USA squad as a senior in 2009 after helping guide the Pirates to their second consecutive league title and fourth-straight bowl appearance – a program first.
He started all 14 games and was the units co-leader with 48 knockdowns in 830 plays from scrimmage. Allen, who was also a member of the 40th Annual Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List, played an integral role for a line that surrendered just 12 sacks all season, which ranked as the sixth-fewest nationally (0.86 spg)
After making a full-time move to the center position during the spring of 2008, Allen followed with a 40-knockdown performance in 751 snaps and 14 starts as a junior to earn second-team all-conference honors. He played in 13 games at guard in 2007 as a sophomore and produced notable blocking totals against Memphis and Boise State (Sheraton Hawaii Bowl), which enabled former Pirate and current Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson to post 301 and 223-yard rushing totals against both opponents, respectively.
Allen appeared in five games as a rookie, opening the last two – a road victory at N.C. State and the Papajohns.com Bowl against South Florida. He logged a total of seven knockdowns in 126 plays, booking three each against the Wolfpack and Bulls as the Pirates top right guard.
