Mr. Wilbur Gene Sawyer, Sr. age 69, a resident of 1475 Schrams Beach Rd., Belhaven, died Monday May 24, 2010.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday May 28, 2010 at Mt. Olive Church of Christ Cemetery and will be conducted by Pastor Phillip Jethro. Andrew Cadle, James Cadle, Phillip O'Neal, Alan Miles, Michael Braddy and Bob Gibson will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Sawyer was born in Hyde County on January 24, 1941 to the late Walter and Mable Lowe Sawyer. He was a self employed commercial fisherman, it was his life and his love. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was loved and will be deeply missed by all.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura Bortz of Bath, Amy Cadle and husband Brian of Bath; two sons, Jason Z. Sawyer and fiancée Dawn of the home, Wilbur Gene Sawyer, Jr. and wife Carol of Bath; two brothers, Walter Gay “Jake” Sawyer and wife Lillian of Pinetown, Lloyd “Buddy” Sawyer and wife Paige of Pinetown; three sisters, Dorothy Gibson and husband John of Earlysville, Virginia, Doris Rose and husband Bill of Pantego, Ann Braddy and husband Wayne of Belhaven and nine grandchildren, Bobby Bortz, Jr., Andrew Cadle, Vicky Bortz, James Cadle, Amber Sawyer, Dylan Sawyer, Tucker Sawyer, Austin VanStaalduinen, Kelly Van Staalduinen and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Sawyer.
The family will receive friends at the home of Laura Bortz, 200 Bortz Lane, Bath, NC 27808.
