Southside, Williamston a step away from state|Teams will meet in Friday’s fourth round of playoffs

The Southside Seahawks and Williamston Tigers are one victory away from playing at Walnut Creek.
The Four Rivers Conference rivals will meet in Chocowinity in Friday’s sectional round, the fourth round, to determine which team will head to the state championships.
Southside (19-4), the Four Rivers champions, beat the Tigers (17-7), the conference runners-up, twice during the regular season.
Southside advanced with wins over North Edgecombe (15-2), Bear Grass (4-0) and eighth-ranked East Carteret (1-0) through the first three rounds of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A state playoffs.
Williamston moved on thanks to wins over Dixon (7-5), Jamesville (5-2) and 10th-ranked Pamlico (4-0).
Also in the East bracket, the N.C. School for Science and Math Unicorns (14-3) will play the winner between Midway (18-6) and East Columbus (16-3).
In the West, top-ranked South Stanly (23-5) faces fourth-ranked East Surry (23-6), the 2008 and 2009 state champions, in one sectional. The other sectional pits second-ranked Swain County (21-4) against West Wilkes (21-6).
The state championships will be held June 4-5.
