Mr. Richard Wells Carrow, a resident of Long Ridge Road, Pinetown, NC went to be with our Lord about 5 a.m. Sunday, June 13, 2010 after just celebrating his 38th anniversary of his 39th birthday.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday June 16, 2010 at the Pinetown Missionary Baptist Church officiated by J.N. Baggett and Lyman S. Sheppard. Burial will follow in the Carrow Family Cemetery at the home. Thomas Carrow, Hughes Boyd, Jimmy Mizell, Robert Mizell, Terry Carrow and Ricky Carrow will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny C. Mizell, Jimmy Carrow, William Carrow, Jr. and Kent Carrow.
Mr. Carrow was born in Beaufort County on May 17, 1933, the twelfth child of sixteen children of Thomas Sweet Carrow and Leah Stubbs Carrow. He was a 1952 graduate of Bath High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Carrow married Gail Cundiff on August 27, 1955 who survives. He lived in Chesapeake, VA from 1952 until his retirement from Ford Motor Company after thirty four years of service. Mr. Carrow was a charter member and deacon of DeBaun Memorial Baptist Church in Chesapeake for thirty years where he served as choir director and coached many years in church softball. Following his retirement to Pinetown in 1986 Mr. Carrow served as a deacon of Pinetown Missionary Baptist Church for twenty three years. He also served the Pinetown Ruritan Club for twenty years as president, vice president, and on their board of directors and in any way he could. He served on the board of directors of Pinetown E.M.S. for several years.
Surviving along with Mr. Carrow’s wife, Gail, of fifty four years: are two daughters: Toni C. Turcotte and her husband Everett, and Susan C. Guill and her husband John; a son: Richard David Carrow; three grandsons: Nicholas Turcotte, Caleb Guill and Alex Foreman; three granddaughters: Andrea Davis, Leah Guill and Rebekah Carrow; two great grandsons: Timothy and Brian Davis; three brothers: William O. Carrow, Ronald M. Carrow and Terry Roscoe Carrow; three sisters: Margie C. White, Rachael C. Salyers and Naomi C. Hardison and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Carrow was preceded in death by a grandson: Dustin Boyd.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour Wednesday June 16, 2010 at Pinetown Missionary Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
