Carr Thompson passed away June 12, 2010 at his residence in Clarksville, TN. Funeral services will be June 23 at 7 p.m. at Church of the Ascension, 4853 Princess Anne Rd, VA Beach, VA.
Wiley Carr Thompson, Jr. was born June 23, 1938, in Aurora, NC to Catharine and Wiley Thompson, Sr. He was the oldest of four children. He graduated Norview High School in Norfolk in 1956 and enlisted in the US Air Force. After his military service he returned to Virginia and managed the furniture department at GEX of Hampton for several years. He owned and/or operated a number of small businesses over the years, including automotive repair shops, Ryder dealers, hotel supply agencies, a photography studio, and even an ice cream parlor. He married Jan Childress in 1980, and they had two children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his brother, Nat. Survivors include his children: Catharine Van Elsacker (James), of Clarksville, TN, and Joshua Blum (Margaret), of Stroudsburg, PA; their mother: Jan Thompson, of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters: Lula Bowman, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Sallie Anne Jolley, of Chesapeake, VA; six grandchildren; four nephews; two nieces; several cousins; and countless close friends. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
