An e-mail campaign is responsible for the return of Burning Down Alliance to the Music in the Streets lineup.
The musical group appeared at last month’s Music in the Streets. The group, formerly known as Jobeth, has played at the Turnage Theater in Washington, the Herring Festival in Jamesville and other area venues.
Music in the Streets kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday, concluding at 9 p.m.
“It’s been an overwhelmingly participation by the community in a reorganized event,” said Marc Brunon, who’s helping direct Music in the Streets this year for the Washington Historic District Alliance.
“All positive,” he said when asked what kind of feedback he’s been receiving about this season of Music in the Streets.
Taking the main stage at the beginning of Music in the Streets will be Life Lite, a Christian rock band from Harvest Church in Washington. Beaufort County Idol then takes to the main stage at 7:30 p.m.
Also scheduled to perform Friday evening are J.B. Mayes, Chad Landen and Adam Jones (country), Kara Carlson, Men ’n a Chord (barbershop-style singing), Wright’s Suzuki (violins and violas) and Living Waters, a praise band.
The Music in the Streets Shaggers are scheduled to return Friday. Down East Rods &Classics members (and sometimes their guests) are scheduled to display their vehicles during the street festival.
In the Music in the Streets children’s area, hoola hoops and chalk art are on the agenda.
Also Friday, the next group of finalists for this year’s Beaufort County Idol grand finale this fall will be selected.
Singers interested in competing in Beaufort County Idol should contact Vail Stewart Rumley at 946-2072 or by e-mail at vsrumley@earthlink.net.
Music in the Streets, organized by the Washington Harbor District Alliance, takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. the third Friday each month from April through September. It is held the fourth Friday in October as a lead-in event to Smoke on the Water, held the fourth Saturday in October.
After Friday’s event, other Music in the Streets events take place July 16, Aug. 20, Sept. 17 and Oct. 22.
Entertainers interested in performing during Music in the Streets events should contact Brunon at Notes Cafe, 143 N. Market St., or by calling 252-940-4688. Any vendors or nonprofit groups interested in reserving a space (a 10-by-10 space), reserving a larger space or selling food at Music in the Streets events should call Beth Byrd, Washington Harbor District Alliance director, at 252-946-3969.
