The night was full of fun and laughter as Southside High School held its commencement exercises Tuesday night, with the Class of 2010 taking its next step into the future.
John Thomas Edwards was the valedictorian. Houston Logan Main was the salutatorian. The musical selections were performed by the school’s concert band. Those selections were “Lest We Forget” and “Seasons of Love.”
In his valedictorian speech, Edwards congratulated all of his fellow graduates as they embark on a new journey — a journey that some will go to college, some will enlist and serve faithfully in the armed forces and yet others will go directly into the work force.
“This is something we have worked so hard for over the past 12 years,” Edwards said. “I would like to thank not only our teachers, our coaches and those who made us who we are, but I would like to thank our parents. Without them, none of this would be possible.”
Edwards said the graduates’ parents deserved a round of applause for their efforts. And that’s exactly what they received — a maximum-capacity congratulation from their graduates.
