Katherine Ellen Baker Ketcham, age 86, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee passed away Monday June 21, 2010 at her home.
Katherine was born June 15, 1924 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania to the late Sidney Sheldon and Louise Bode Baker. Katherine was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Oak Ridge where she enjoyed working with the church quilting group and Evangel the church newsletter. Katherine volunteered with the Girl Scouts which gave her the opportunity to do other things she enjoyed such as swimming, camping, hiking, having hiked a section of the Appalachian Trail with her girls, and was a very creative craft person. She was also instrumental in establishing the public library in the village of Greenlawn, New York.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years James R. Ketcham, Jr. who died in January of 2007, her brother Charles Baker, and her sister Winifred Gould. She is survived by her son Timothy Richard Ketcham and his wife Ellen of Farmington, Maine, daughters; Barbara K. Lopes and her husband Daniel of Claxton, Tennessee and Christine K Abbey and her husband Russell of Check, Virginia, seven grandchildren: Sean Abbey,
Scott Abbey, Donald Ketcham, James Ketcham, Morgan Ketcham, Colin Ketcham, and Susan Steger Greenleaf and her husband Bruce, and two great grandchildren: Abbigail Greenleaf and Josh Greenleaf.
A burial service will be held Wednesday, July 14, 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Oak Ridge with The Rev. Dr. Craig Kallio officiating. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Stephens' Episcopal Church.
