Ronald B. Ballance — 1918-2010

Ronald Baum Ballance, 91, of 13570 North Lake Rd., Engelhard died peacefully at the home of his daughter in Washington on Sunday, July 18, 2010.
Born in Hyde County on August 31, 1918, he was the son of the late Ronald and Katie Baum Ballance. He was married to Geraldine Neal Ballance who preceded him in death.
He was a member of the former Engelhard United Methodist Church, a former member of the Engelhard Rotary Club and was a Master Mason with Atlantic Lodge 294 AF&AM of Swan Quarter. He was the owner and operator of R.B. Ballance Grocery Store. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday at the Family Plot in Fulford Cemetery, Steve Bryan will officiate.
Surviving are two daughters, Brenda B. Edwards and husband Donald of Washington, Debbie B. Rowe and husband John of Raleigh; two sons, Hall Ballance and wife Jan of Fayetteville and Kent Ballance of Forest Hill, MD; one sister Hazel B. Carawan of Swan Quarter. Eight grandchildren, Tiffany Griffis and husband Daniel, Christopher Carpenter, Katherine Greeson and husband Gary, John Scott Rowe and wife Jessica, Taylor Ballance, Byron Ballance, Stuart Ballance and David Ballance.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Leigh Ballance, and a sister, Emogene B. Marshall.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night at the home of Mr. Ronald B. Ballance on 13570 North Lake Rd., Engelhard. Memorials are suggested to the charity of one’s choice.
