The Washington 8U all-stars represented Washington in a fantastic manner during their time at the Babe Ruth Southeast Regional in Altamonte Springs, Fla., this past weekend as they placed seventh out of a field of 12.
The girls touched down in Florida and got off to a great start as they powered their way past Glen Allen (Va.) 12-10, before blanking North Florida 6-0.
After winning their first two games, Washington lost some steam as it fell 16-3 to Pitt County before dropping a game to the host team, Altamonte Springs 18-6. The all-stars fell in their final game of the tourney to a fellow North Carolina team, Fair View, by the score of 11-0.
Overall, the experience was a great one for a team that was the first ever 8U squad to make the Southeast Regional. Head coach Harry Main said he was thrilled to work with his fellow coaches and the girls all summer.
“It has been an absolute pleasure coaching with Dallis Tucker and Anthony Keech, I couldn’t have asked for better coaches,” Main said. “It is great seeing this group of young ladies playing at this level at an early age. I’m looking forward to seeing these ladies four years down the road contending for a World Series title.”
Washington Girls Softball League president Greg Dority praised the girls’ efforts and said he looks forward to seeing them compete in the future.
“The entire community is proud of these girls and their accomplishments — they went down to Florida and played their hearts out,” Dority said. “We plan to see them at the World Series in a thousand days.”
