Mr. Walter Theodore Smithwick Widener, 30, of Tallahassee, FL, formerly of Douglasville, GA, passed away on September 11, 2010. 
Walter was born January 18, 1980 in Lithia Springs, GA. He graduated in 1998 from Lithia Springs Comprehensive High School and continued his studies at the University of Georgia. He graduated with the Class of 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in German. From there, Walter decided to pursue his Juris Doctorate at the Walter F. George School of Law, a division of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia; graduating in 2006. Walter is the prosecuting attorney for the Florida Department of Health.
Walter had a very competitive spirit and enjoyed golf, travelling, and was an avid fisherman. He loved competing in multiple kayak fishing tournaments in the Apalachicola Bay, Florida and Gulf of Mexico. Walter played baseball, basketball, and football throughout middle and high school; he became the team captain for the Lithia Springs High School baseball team. He was a very talented guitarist and his music was enjoyed by all that had the chance to hear him play.
He is the beloved son of Ronald E. and Linda S. Widener of Douglasville, Georgia and brother to Reginald V. Widener and wife, Brandie, their sons, R.J. and Braylen of Whitesburg, Georgia; his grandfather BJ Leary of Portsmouth, Virginia; his Aunt Eileen Conway of Hiram, Georgia, her daughters, Emily G. Ballew, of Woodstock, Georgia and Chloe Conway, of Homewood, Alabama; his Uncle Oswald B. Smithwick, Jr. and wife, Laura of Washington, North Carolina. He is also survived by many friends that loved him dearly.
He is the grandson of the late Oswald B. Smithwick, Sr. of Washington, North Carolina, the late Elsie Smithwick Leary of Portsmouth, Virginia, and the late Horace and Patricia Widener of Augusta, GA.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. The funeral service will be Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the Rosehaven Chapel with Pastor Clinton Reed officiating. Entombment will follow at Rosehaven Mausoleum.
