Mary Jefferson Neal, age 81, a resident of 50 Riverside Road, Washington, went to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday September 17, 2010 at Snowd Branch Church of God in Washington, officiated by pastor Jerry Waters. Burial will follow at Snowd Branch Church of God Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Hillside Funeral Service in Washington from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of her daughter, Annie Mae, 632 Latham St., Belhaven.
Mrs. Neal was born on February 2, 1929 in Beaufort County, daughter of the late John Allen Ayers and Annie Kelly Ayers. She was married to her husband of 38 years, John T. Jefferson, on March 8, 1946, who preceded her in death in 1978. Mrs. Neal remarried William B. Neal on February 14, 1981, who preceded her in death in 1998. She worked at Belhaven Tastee Freeze for 20 years. She was a former member of Belhaven Assembly of God and current member of Snowd Branch Church of God.
Mary Jefferson Neal is survived by two sons, John T. Jefferson Jr. and wife Mary Lee of Monticello, AR and Allen Jefferson of the home; one daughter, Annie Mae Greer of Belhaven, NC; one brother, Fred Ayers of Pea Ridge, NC; one sister, Maggie White of Greenville, NC; three grandchildren, April Lassiter, Amanda Moyer and Timothy Greer; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
