Mary Elizabeth Hopkins Bailey, 81, of 20323 Highway 64 East, Williamston, died Saturday in Pitt Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 22, 1929, in Martin County to the late Frank Hopkins and Katie Mae Cherry Hopkins. She was married to Asa D. Bailey, Feb. 17, 1952. He preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 2005.
She was a retired secretary for Skinner Tobacco Company where she worked for more than 40 years. She was a devoted member of the Holly Springs Methodist Church for 62 years where she had served as treasurer, financial chairperson, a Sunday school teacher and other functions of the church. She loved the Lord, her family and her church.
Surviving is a daughter, Daphne B. Leggett and husband Joe of Williamston; a brother, Curtis Hopkins and wife Anne of Garner; a grandson, John Leggett and wife Jessica of Winchester, Va., and a granddaughter, Katie Leggett of Greenville.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Holly Springs Methodist Church by Rev. Lonnie Hedrick. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation was Monday 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home, other times at the home of Joe &Daphne Leggett, 1084 J.C. Leggett Drive, Williamston.
