In loving memory of Doris G. Cuthrell who passed peacefully on September 17, 2010 at 2:08 a.m. Mimi Doris impacted so many lives with her perpetual acts of kindness, and deep love for family and friends. Our memories will be cherished and remain in our hearts forever.
Affectionately known as “Mom,” her time as head cook at the Florida House Inn was recognized by the author of “Eat Your Way Across America.” Mom also devoted countless hours volunteering with little league baseball and Pop Warner football.
Born Doris Gleta Guthrie, December 9, 1935, to the late Captain Fred and Neva Guthrie of Pinetown and Belhaven, NC. Doris moved to Fernandina Beach, FL in September 1968 and ultimately to her beloved Edwards Road community in 1980.
She was preceded in passage by her husband of 48 years, Barney O. Cuthrell (Belhaven, NC); sisters: Ethel Russell (Deerfield, FL/New Bern, NC) Brenda Strief (Buffalo, NY), Selmarie Melvin (Fernandina Beach, FL); and brother Vernon Guthrie (Belhaven, NC).
Doris is survived by her sisters Mavis Oliver (Havelock, NC), Alma Cundiff (Kansas City, MO); brothers Bobby Guthrie (Belhaven, NC) and Sam “Freddie” Guthrie (Riverside, CA). Daughters Wanda (Fred) Mastin (Brian, Courtney) and Jennifer (Ben) Sabo (Chase, Amelia, Grady). Sons Steve (Tani) Cuthrell (Christopher, Matthew) and Randy Cuthrell (Nicolette; Trey, Alexa, Charlie), and numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
A memorial will be held to celebrate her life at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Cuthrell’s residence on Edwards Road, Yulee, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations in mom’s name to the Northeast Community Hospice or simply spending time with a friend are suggested.
