Mr. David Leroy "Roy" Kirk, age 92, a resident of 382 Loop Road, Belhaven, went to be with his Savior, Tuesday, September 21, 2010.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Ryder Hill Cemetery in the Pamlico Beach Community, with Dean Fulford officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 24, 2010 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC, and other times at his home.
Mr. Kirk was born in Beaufort County on April 26, 1918 to James Willis and Callie Wilkins Kirk. On May 5, 1938 he married his beloved Frances Arline Sawyer Kirk who precedes him in death. He was known to all as "Roy." Along with his family, working on the water was his passion. He continued as a commercial fisherman until his rugged old body made him dock his boat for retirement. He also served his country in the Navy during WWII.
He is survived by his children, Frances K. Force and Oral W. Kirk, both of Washington, Carolyn K. Cornelius, Judy K. Hooten, and Rita K. Rose, all of Belhaven, Lois K. Tooley of Plymouth, and Connie K. Respess of Chocowinity, 22 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to his family he is survived by one brother, John Kirk of Belhaven.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his son David Herman Kirk, four brothers, and one sister.
