The Pam Pack started its Coastal Conference slate on the right note as it topped Jacksonville 27-21 on the road Friday.
Washington 2-3 (1-0) was led by running back William Ellegor who rushed for over 100 yards and three touchdowns behind a strong effort by the offensive line.
“The offensive line did a good job of blocking in the first half,” Pam Pack coach Sport Sawyer said. “Marquin Hill, the fullback, hit the holes hard and (OL) Kevin Chapman and the rest of the offensive line blocked real well.”
Winning its Coastal Conference opener should provide a big boost to the Pam Pack, who were looking to rebound after a tough loss to Goldsboro.
“After last week’s game the guys showed a good week of practice,” Sawyer said. “They practiced hard and tonight it was huge to get our first conference win.”
After the Cardinals (0-5, 0-1) got on the board first, the Pam Pack struck back with four unanswered scores to take a 27-14 lead at halftime.
From that point on the defense held up as it let up only one score the rest of the way.
“Defensively we picked off three passes tonight,” Sawyer said. “The defense played really well. Raphael Gibbs got an interception, and Darnell Windley ran one back for a touchdown.”
