COLUMBIA, NORTH CAROLINA — Helen Albeatrice Spruill Rowsom, 96, died Monday, September 27, 2010, at the Chowan Hospital in Edenton, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband George Raymond Rowsom.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, October 9, at the Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia, N.C. A viewing will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday.
She was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church for 86 yrs. She served as Organist, Sunday school teacher, Deaconess, Mother and Treasurer. Helen was truly a Christian woman that loved the Lord. Helen received her early education in Tyrrell County. She continued her education at North Carolina Central College for Negroes and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Mathematics. She was employed at Tyrrell High School, Columbia, N.C., for 30 years and at the Columbia High School, Columbia, N.C., for 10 yrs. She was a Licensed Funeral Director. She and her husband owned and operated the Rowsom Funeral Home in Columbia and Edenton, N.C.
She is survived by her daughter, Dazzerine Rowsom Pitt, Tarboro, N.C., and son, George Rowsom, Edenton, N.C.; two grandsons, Brian M. Rowsom, Atlanta, Ga., Corey J. Pitt, Tarboro, N.C.; a granddaughter, Terill Pitt Adams (Anthony), Pinetops, N.C.; three great-grandsons; a special niece, Vida Hassell, Columbia, N.C., and a host of family and friends.
