M/SGT Frank Roger Squires, US Air Force RET., age 73, a resident of 120 Dickinson Rd., Chocowinity, NC died Wednesday October 6, 2010 at his home.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday October 9, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by Pastor Melvin Haas. Pallbearers will be Jim Hatcher, David Nichols, Stephen Nichols, Billy Boyd, Daniel Smith and Danny Smith. Burial with full military honors will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
Mr. Squires was born in Beaufort County on September 7, 1937 son of the late Samuel Wilson Squires and the late Hattie Squires Midgett. He attended Bath High School and served his country in the U.S Air Force from 1953 until his retirement in 1975. Mr. Squires married the former Margie Elliott on October 1, 1958 who survives. Following his military career he worked at Hamilton Beach and Stanadyne as a Data Processing Supervisor where he retired in 2000. He was a member of Ephesus Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Squires loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his animals and life on Blounts Creek.
Surviving along with his wife Margie of the home are two sons: M/SGT Frank R. Squires, Jr., US Air Force RET. and his wife M/SGT Linda, US Air Force RET. of Houston, DE and John E. Squires of Greenville, NC; two daughters: Belinda “Joey” Smith and her husband Mark of Washington, NC and Marsha Boyd and her husband Billy of Blounts Creek, NC; fourteen grandchildren: Jason W. Squires and his wife Laina of Ocala, FL, Zackary K. Squires of Bath, NC, Mallory L. Squires of Milford, DE, LCPL Steven M. Squires and his wife Samantha of Cherry Point, NC, Joshua T. Squires of Ocala, FL, J. Elliott Squires, Jr. and J. Garrett Squires both of Greenville, NC, M. Dean Smith, Jr. and Lanie J. Smith both of Washington, NC, Casey Boyd Duncan and her husband David of Knoxville, TN, W. Hunter Boyd and M. Tanner Boyd both of Blounts Creek, NC, Capt. April Foley and her husband Joe of Melbourne, FL and Andrew Roate of Springfield, IL; five great grandchildren: Abi, Noah, Dane, Rhett and Maria Beau Squires all of Ocala, FL; six brothers: Sammy Squires and his wife Teresa of Grimesland, Elmer Squires of Pinetown, Frederick Squires and his wife Linda of Bath, Wayne Squires, Timmy Squires and Richard Midgett all of Washington; six sisters: Joyce Hatcher and her husband Jim, Carol Alligood and her husband Colon, Betty King, Linda K. Nichols and her husband David, Nina Paul and Ada Evans and her husband Jimmy all of Washington and two special pets: Chip and Dale both of the home. Mr. Squires was preceded in death by a brother: Wilson Squires and a sister: Pam Harris.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday October 8, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home.
