Joseph Thomas Cox, Jr., 84, of the Wilmar community passed away on Friday, October 15, 2010 at his residence. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and owner of J.T. Cox Trucking Company. He was a member and trustee of Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church, a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and a charter member of the Civitan Club of Greenville.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church with burial to follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Love Edwards Cox of the home; four children, Brenda Cox Hinshaw of Liberty, Joseph Thomas “Tommy” Cox, III of Wilmington, Patricia Cox Fodel of Jamestown and Kristi Cox Kerr of Rock Hill, SC; one sister, Geneva Cox Lupton of New Bern; six grandsons, Russ Edmondson, Jay Cox, Chris Edmondson, Kyle Hinshaw, Josh Hinshaw and Reese Peters; six granddaughters, Mary Love Edmondson, Anna Love Fodel, Anna Elizabeth Cox, Mary Kathryn Fodel, Katie Love Shirley and Elliott Peters; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Cox Edmondson.
The family will receive friends just prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. For those considering memorials, the family suggests the Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund.
