Mrs. Shirley Jean Royal Smith, 60, a resident of 2509 E. Forest Dr., Newport, died Saturday Oct. 13, 2010 at UHS Inpatient Hospice. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, October 23, 2010 at noon in the New Bern Eastern Association Headquarters Building at 885 N.C. 306 Highway North, Grantsboro, with the Bishop John McClaney officiating. Burial will follow in the Phenel Chapel Church Cemetery, Blounts Creek.
Mrs. Smith was married to Bishop Charles Smith, who survives.
Viewing today from 1 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the chapel and at other times at the home.
