Donald Larry Hardee, Sr., 67, of Washington, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 31, 2010.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Larry Hardee, born in Beaufort County, lived most of his life in the Pactolus community. As vice president of Hardee Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning Co. since 1972, he enjoyed working with his brother and employees. They took special care to provide work during the recent difficult economic times.
Larry loved being a member and elder of Oak Grove Church of Christ. He, along with wife Jean, ministered in various ways together for 35 years. He loved to read his Bible.
Larry and Jean were married on January 11, 1964. He was a wonderful husband who loved to travel, especially on cruises. While he enjoyed time with family, he saved Friday night as a special date night for Jean.
As a father, Larry took great pleasure in joking with his children. He always looked forward to spending family time with them. In addition, he treated his in-laws as if they were his own children. Larry was an active, loving grandfather. He could often be found in the floor playing Legos, Lincoln logs, or rolling kids up tightly in a blanket.
He was loved and respected by all of his family and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth P. and Louis A. Hardee, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jean Weatherington Hardee; daughter, Lisa Hardee Ezzell and husband, Alfred, of Washington; son, Donald Larry Hardee, Jr. and wife, Joy, of Greenville; brothers, Wilbur Hardee, of Greenville, and Danny Hardee, of Washington; sisters, Linda Little, of Bath, and Debbie Moore, of Washington; and four grandchildren that affectionately called him “GaGa,”Alex Brandon Ezzell, Rebecca Grace Ezzell, Harrison Davis Hardee, and Carson Will Hardee.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 2OO62, Greenville, NC 27858, or to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Foundation, 1209 Brown St. Washington, NC 27889.
