PHILIP E. HOUSE 1941 – 2010

Philip E. House, 69, of 802 Green Street, Columbia, died unexpectedly early Monday, November 15, 2010 at Chowan Hospital in Edenton.
Born in Martin County, he grew up in Robersonville, the son of the late Berry Lester and Mildred Courtney Ayers House. He was married to the former Nancy Marie Fletcher who survives.
He and his family moved to Columbia in 1965. He retired in 1996 as supervisor of the Columbia office of U.S. Department of Agriculture-Farmer’s Home Administration which served Tyrrell, Hyde, Washington and Dare counties. He served on the ABC Board for Tyrrell County until his retirement as chairman in January, 2010; was a longtime member and treasurer of the Tyrrell County Drainage District # 3 in Gum Neck; a charter member of Columbia Lion’s Club and faithfully attended the Bear Grass Primitive Baptist Church throughout his life. He was recognized as Citizen of the Year during the recent Scuppernong River Festival in October, 2010, and was an active member of Tyrrell County Volunteer Fire Department since his coming to Tyrrell County.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Bryan Funeral Service in Columbia. Garlon Vick and Harold Pittman will officiate. Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery in Elizabeth City.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Philip E. House, Jr. and wife, Terri of Portland, TN; a daughter, Helen H. Craddock and husband, Ralph of Manns Harbor; Two brothers, Berry Lester House, Jr. and wife, Lila of Henrico, VA and Abner Wayne House and wife, Virginia of Robersonville; a sister, Phyllis H. Stroud and husband, Elton of Danville, VA; seven grandchildren, Milton White and wife, Lorraine, Lynzie House, Luke House, Samuel House, James Craddock, Conner Philip Craddock and Levi Craddock.
A daughter, Alison House White, preceded her father in death in 1986.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service and at other times at their home.
