Mrs. Tillie Gardner Hodges, age 84, a resident of 742 Robersonville Road, Washington, NC died Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at her home.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday November 19, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by Rev. John Anderson. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Lee Boyd, James Hiner, Joe Smith, Ricky Leggett, Bill Cothern and Greg Hodges will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Hodges was born in Martin County on September 12, 1926 to the late William Harvey Gardner and Althea Wilson Gardner. She graduated from Washington High School. On March 12, 1947, she married Carl Frederick Hodges, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1997. In addition to helping her husband on the family farm, Mrs. Hodges worked for over 25 years at Belks as a sales associate. Mrs. Hodges was a member of Tranters Creek Church of Christ where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Ladies Aid.
Mrs. Hodges is survived by a daughter: Phyllis Hodges Boyd and husband Grover of Washington, NC, a granddaughter: Misty Boyd Hiner and husband James of New Bern, NC and grandson: Lee Boyd and wife Sara of North Haven, CT.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hodges is preceded in death by a son, Carl Frederick Hodges, Jr. who was killed in Vietnam in 1968, a sister: Irene Gardner and two brothers: Bill Gardner and Octavius Gardner.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Grover Boyd, 773 Robersonville Road, Washington, NC 27889.
