Mrs. Kathleen Holland Smith Lewis, age 83, a resident of 84 Hardison Lane, Washington, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 at the Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Pastor Stanley Jones. Pallbearers will be Scottie Banks, Steve Cannaday, Chris Beacham, John Minarik, Paul Woolard, Jr. and Clay Colie.
Mrs. Kathleen was born in Pitt County on July 27, 1927, daughter of the late Joseph Holland and the late Helen Cannon Holland. At the age of four years, Mrs. Kathleen’s parents died and she was raised by her Uncle and Aunt Suttie and Eva Haddock. She was a graduate of Chicod School and married Bill Smith, Jr. who preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1996. Mrs. Kathleen was a retired seamstress at Sampson’s Shirt Factory and attended Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church when her health permitted. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed.
Survivors include three daughters: Linda Smith Banks of Greenville, June Smith Fielding of Tampa, FL; Eva Jean Smith Cannaday of Washington; a son: Mike Smith and his wife Sheila of Chocowinity; a sister Margie Jackson of Washington; eleven grandchildren: Steve Cannaday, Melissa Minarik, Todd Cannaday, Amy Keirstead, Scottie Banks, Tammy Starkie, Jerry Alton Smith, Tonya Leigh Miller, Christy Lynn Beacham, Steven Lee Smith and Megan Renee Smith and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kathleen was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Kenneth Wayne Smith and Bonnie Martinez and a brother: Carlton Ray Holland.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home of Mrs. Kathleen’s daughter, Jean Cannaday, located at 84 Hardison Lane, Washington.
