Mr. Lindsey Jay Sutton, age 72, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 at Alligood Church of God of Washington and will be conducted by Pastor Phillip Jethro. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Alligood, Freddie Cherry, Timmy Sutton, Billy Ray Woolard, Paul Woolard, and Timmy Woolard. Larry Anderson and Michael Lilley will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Sutton was born on Sept. 7, 1938 in Pitt County to the late Scott and Maebell Sutton. On Feb. 7, 1959, Lindsey married the love of his life, Betty Lou Woolard. Lindsey’s other love were his family and his work. Lindsey was a cabinet maker for over 30 years and took pride in his Sutton Brothers Custom Cabinets business.
Lindsey will always be remembered as a loving husband and the best dad a child could ever have. Lindsey was a loyal friend. If you ever needed anything, you could always look for him to be there. To his grandchildren, he will always be remembered as “Papa.”
Mr. Sutton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Lou Sutton; three daughters, Cathy Murphy and husband, Maurice, of Washington, Debra Fraley of Pink Hill and Jennifer Lynn White and husband, Joe, of New Bern; seven grandchildren, Michael Lilley, Pamela Everette, Yvonne Fraley, Herminia Portillo, Cody White, Logan White and Aston White; one great-grandchild, Mica Lilley; and two sisters, Barbara Morris of Vanceboro and Kay Barber of Washington. Mr. Sutton was preceded in death by two brothers, Dalton Sutton and Floyd Sutton Sr. of Washington; and one sister, Sandra Davenport of Bath.
The family received friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 at Alligood Church of God in Washington and other times at the home.
